What qualifies a product as a GeoPack solution?
Solutions within the GeoPack portfolio must:
Align with the TekniPlex sustainability guidelines
Pass selective, verified GeoPack criteria
Receive approval from the TekniPlex GeoPack brand committee
As part of step two in the approval process, GeoPack solutions must meet at least two of the following criteria:
Freedom to use:
Raw materials used to construct products are not listed on any state or country national legislation prohibiting the usage of the materials.
Renewable sources:
Products are made of bio-based renewable sources such as paper, cardboard, molded fiber, PLA, PSM, green PE, or green PP, among other renewable materials.
Biodegradable/compostable:
GeoPack products are biodegradable/compostable as defined by ASTM D6400-21, Standard Specification for Labeling of Plastics Designed to be Aerobically Composted in Municipal or Industrial Facilities, and ASTM D6868-21, Standard Specification for Labeling of End Items that Incorporate Plastics and Polymers as Coatings or Additives with Paper and Other Substrates Designed to be Aerobically Composted in Municipal or Industrial Facilities.
Recyclable:
The recyclability of GeoPack products follow the Federal Trade Commission Guides for the Use of Environmental Marketing Claims, from October 11, 2012, part 260.12 – also known as the Green Guides. The Guides advise marketers to qualify recyclable claims when recycling facilities are not available to a "substantial majority" of consumers or communities where a product is sold. "Substantial majority", as used in this context, means at least 60%.
Recycled content:
Products are made of at least 10% post-consumer recycled (PCR) raw material content.
