Wayne, Pa. (November 26, 2019) —Action Technology, a Tekni-Plex business unit, is announcing its sponsorship of Walking South America, a project that seeks to examine the impact of micro plastics on the environment and animals.
The project is being led by “eco explorer” Francesco Magistrali. He departed on November 8th and is traveling solo and on foot across South America from the Pacific to the Atlantic Oceans. Armed with camera equipment, the expedition will be collecting visual data on micro plastics found in fish, birds and mammals during the journey. The findings will be tied into the communities encountered during the walk, with recommendations made regarding solutions that can improve life conditions in those areas.
“Action Technology supports environmentally-sound manufacturing practices. For example, we evaluate all aspects of energy use in our manufacturing facilities so that we can reduce our carbon footprint and minimize dependence on fossil fuel. We also collect our own manufacturing scrap and put it back into appropriate manufacturing processes,” said Johan Laureys, global vice president, Action Technology. “As such, we were pleased to sponsor Francesco Magistrali and his Walking South American project. We hope that his research will lead to environmental improvements in the region.”
Magistrali’s progress across South America can be followed via his website, Facebook and Instagram.
